BELGIAN inspection and certification group Vinçotte has won a contract for integrity monitoring at the Wheats tone LNG plant.
Vinçotte started conducting spot checks on welded joints and steel structures in August, with a project team of about 25 people to carry out the work over the next 18 months.
The company will conduct the work on behalf of the Entrepose – VINCI – Thiess joint venture (EVT) which in turn was hired by general contractor Bechtel.
Vinçotte international business development manager Ben Verhagen said the company’s references and technical knowhow in Non-Destructive testing had helped it win the deal.
“Checking the critical bimetallic welds in the 9 per cent nickel steel in the construction of LNG facilities is a complex task,” he said.
“This Australian LNG project is one of the biggest we have ever received,” he said.
