SURVEYING company Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) has started a multiclient 3D (MC3D) seismic survey in the Ceduna sub-basin offshore South Australia, set to cover about 800,000 hectares.

The Springboard MC3D program is using seismic vessel the Ramform Sovereign, which will use PGS’s GeoStreamer towed streamer acquisition technology to acquire the data.

The Ceduna sub-basin is an under-explored area at which drilling activity is likely to begin in 2016 and 2017, PGS said.

A series of new areas in the basin have been opened up for exploration in recent gazettal rounds.
