MINING and civil contracting firm BGC Contracting announced two additions to its executive team, with the appointment of Stewart Hart as executive general manager of finance and strategy and Barry Bloch as executive general manager of project support services.

BGC said Mr Hart was a highly regarded financial and strategic leader, with more than 25 years’ experience in the resources industry.

He was most recently the chief financial officer at Western Power.

As a registered psychologist, Mr Bloch brings extensive human resources and organisational development experience to BGC Contracting’s new role of executive general manager of project support services, with a career spanning more than 25 years.

Most recently Mr Bloch was the group managing director of people and transformation leader with Worley Parsons, the company said.

BGC Contracting chief executive officer Greg Heylen said the appointments follow an internal review of the business and subsequent restructuring of the contracting firm’s leadership team.

“In the past six months we have taken a long hard look at our business in the context of the current challenges facing our market,” Mr Heylen said.

“In particular, we recognise that in order to retain our position as market leaders in our field as mining and civil contractors, now more than ever we need to deliver greater efficiency and value to our clients’ operations and projects.”

“Both Stewart and Barry are not only highly specialised in their respective finance and human resources fields, they also bring considerable strategic business acumen and creative thinking to our team,” he said.

Mr Hart and Mr Bloch will commence their new roles with BGC Contracting in late March, the company said.
