RESPONDING to the industry’s safety requirements, Protea recently delivered a scissor lift for use on an offshore semi-submersible drilling rig.

An electrically powered unit with an integral hydraulic system to operate the lift and drive system, it can safely lift two personnel and their equipment to a height of 13 metres.

With a total lift capacity of 300 kilograms, the system fully complies with all appropriate offshore design codes and regulations including DNV-OS-E101 drilling plant, LA 2.22 standard for certification – lifting appliances, and EN 280:2013 mobile elevating platforms, Protea said.

In addition, Protea has developed a range of rig elevators for land and offshore drilling applications.

Available with lift capacities up to 200 kilograms, these elevators allow the safe transport of workers from ground level up to the rig floor.

Protea global sales manager Graham Manning said safety of personnel when accessing equipment at height is key.

“We have applied our knowledge of the design, build and supply of safety critical handling equipment to develop a range of personnel lifts that can be tailored for specific applications,” he said.

Protea chief executive Tomaz Paskiewicz acknowledged that lifting people as opposed to cargo presented a number of challenges.

“With our experienced design team, we have developed a successful range of high quality personnel lift products that tailored to the specific needs of our clients,” he said.
