THE CFA Society Perth has launched its bold Natural Resources Vision, with the ambition to position Perth a global centre of excellence for natural resources finance. As the finance industry’s premier professional body, CFA Society Perth is leveraging its pivotal role to engage with and seek input from industry leaders and finance professionals in the natural resources sector.
Two hundred practitioners convened yesterday evening at the Frasers Function Centre to listen to the Bill Johnston, Western Australia’s Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Energy and Industrial Relations and Sherry Duhe, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Woodside talk about the importance of excellence in commercial evaluation.
“With Western Australia’s abundance of natural resources and globally recognised excellence in energy, resources and agriculture, Perth is the logical home to develop a hub for natural resources finance and investment excellence,” said Claire Mortoni, CFA, co-president of CFA Society Perth. “CFA charterholders are renowned for applying a rigorous, ethical, and informed approached to investment recommendations, risk management and governance. Leveraging these assets will in turn add real value to the natural resources industry”.
CFA Society Perth is part of the worldwide network of 160 CFA Institute member societies which represent more than 170,000 CFA charterholders. These CFA Societies benefit the wider community by representing investment professionals, employers and universities and promoting the highest standards of ethics and excellence in investment evaluation through providing relevant education, professional development and advocacy. Our aim is to blend the local excellence in both natural resources and financial stewardship, and create an environment where investors’ interests come first, markets function at their best, and the economy grows.
Next year, CFA Society Perth will be hosting a symposium for natural resources finance and investment professionals focused on addressing some of the major economic, political, social and environmental challenges facing the resources sector. Please contact Juliet Coghlan, Executive Director CFA Society Perth, for more information on how to be involved in this initiative.
