SINGAPORE-based Mohit Batra has been appointed managing director of Asian and Australasian operations for lifeboat manufacturer Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI).
Mr Batra joins SCI with a strong background in the maritime industry, having spent 12 years at sea and the past 10 years onshore in senior positions with top-tier multinationals.
His previous role was at the American Bureau of Shipping where he led strategy and business development for the Greater China division. He is a master mariner and holds an MBA from Oxford University.
As well as in Singapore, Mohit will head SCI operations in Malaysia and Western Australia.
SCI manufactures, inspects, tests and services lifeboats, fast rescue craft, release mechanisms, winches and davits to international standards for the global merchant shipping, cruise and oil and gas sectors.
Mr Batra said he foresaw a substantial increase in demand for the company’s products and services.
“We plan to grow our market share, strengthen the local team and increase our presence in this region. I am excited at the prospects and opportunities this region has and confident that SCI can meet the growing demands and expectations of the industry.”
Steve Wells, chief executive officer at SCI, said: “In Mohit we have the right person to develop the business in the region and achieve our growth ambitions. We’re delighted he has joined Survival Craft Inspectorate.”
