TECHNICAL staff working for Kumul Petroleum Holdings will carry out a secondment with Japanese company JX Nippon at its operations offshore Vietnam.

Geologist Ken Vei and petroleum engineer Derek Launa will undertake specialised skills training during the two month secondment, training in reservoir evaluation, production management, and surveillance with the latest industry state-of-the-art software.

In addition they will also learn about enhanced oil recovery method for a major offshore oil field in Vietnam, Kumul general manager Wilson Lee said.

“We are really happy that together with our business partner JX Nippon, who is also an equity owner in the PNG LNG project, we can offer world class international assignment and training for PNG nationals,” he said.

Kumul Petroleum managing director Wapu Sonk added that the company planned to become a major national oil and gas corporation, creating value and opportunity for PNG and its people.

“One of the ways to do that is by developing the PNG nationals’ technical and operational capabilities together with our international business partners”, he said.
