SENEX Energy has appointed John Warburton to its board as an independent non-executive director.
Company chairman Trevor Bourne said Dr Warburton brought significant global petroleum industry knowledge and expertise to the company.
“His broad ranging international experience extends across conventional and unconventional petroleum plays and indigenous cultures and will enhance the board’s ability to strategically, commercially and technically high grade opportunities in the field of exploration,” he said.
“After starting out with BP Exploration in the UK, and consolidating his early career with them around the world, John advanced over a 34 year career through senior technical and leadership roles involving exploration, appraisal and development with BP Exploration and other substantial oil and gas companies including Oil Search, Roc Oil Company, Lasmo and Eni,” he said.
In more recent years, Dr Warburton founded Insight Exploration, a consultancy providing technical and business services to the international petroleum exploration industry.
His career as a geoscientist spans a broad range of exploration related responsibilities across the global oil and gas sector, and includes locating, assessing, advising on and optimising prospective opportunities.
He currently serves as exploration and new business advisor for Oil Search and as a non-executive director of Imperial Oil and Gas (part of Empire Energy Group) where he previously served for three years as chief executive officer.
He holds a Bachelor of Science with Class I Honours in Geological Sciences from the University of Leeds and a PhD in Structural Geology from Swansea University.
Dr Warburton lives in Sydney, serves on the External Advisory Board for Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience at the University of Leeds, and is a fellow of the Geological Society of London and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
