GLOBAL recruitment corporation Swift Worldwide Resources has appointed Jamie Haerewa as its New Zealand regional manager after entering the country’s small but expanding oil and gas sector earlier this year.
“We started looking at New Zealand during mid 2013 after the entry of Woodside Petroleum and Statoil . . . then earlier this year there was US major Anadarko Petroleum and its drilling campaigns. These just highlighted just some of the opportunities available,” she told Oil & Gas Australia recently.
“You have more exploration activity and other projects now, certainly more than years ago, and so we decided to have someone permanently on the ground here, an embedded presence.”
Ms Harewa spent four years in Swift’s Perth office dealing with clients in Australia and South-East Asia.
That was until she arrived in New Plymouth just a few months ago.
She is joined on staff by fellow New Zealander Kasey Thomas, as Swift’s New Zealand business development manager – both based in New Plymouth.
Swift will operate in New Zealand as it does around the world, hiring permanent staff or those on fixed term contracts for companies or helping provide specific core services for specific projects for specific client needs.
“We already have a few clients, some of which are global and some local,” she said.
“It’s definitely an exciting time to be here, the attention New Zealand is getting.”
