ACCORDING to power transmission and fluid transfer company Gates Engineering and Services, flexible hose assembly issues cause 47 per cent of all downtime.
“The typical drilling rig has 553 flexible hose assemblies and one hose failure can shut down your entire drilling operation, resulting in up to four hours of lost production,” the company said in an announcement.
Gates’ line of Black Gold blowout preventer hose is fire resistant and rated for 5,000 psi constant working pressure – being designed for the extreme, erratic pressures experienced in blowout preventer control systems.
The company’s range of Black and Gold choke and kill hoses, used around the flexible joint when the blowout preventer system is on the seafloor, are manufactured to handle up to 20% hydrogen sulfide gas for one hour at 93° celsius at working pressure.
Gates’ two inch fully API 7K approved cementing hose is specially compounded for handling abrasion and corrosion, and is available in both 5,000 and 10,000psi working pressures.
New one-piece 1502 hammer unions that complement the hose are also available.
At the same time, monitoring the condition and performance of hydraulic hose is critical to keeping costs down and productivity up – with Gates offering a hose diagnostic, monitoring and data solution.
Sentry Services allows equipment operators to avoid failures, estimate remaining hose life and accurately identify hoses for replacement.
Gates Engineering and Services delivers premium services that include hydraulic hose management, inspection, maintenance and repair, as well as manufacture, installation and change out of hose systems which are all backed by our expert sales support and training programs.
Exhibiting at stand N26 at this year’s AOG, the company’s range of hydraulic hoses and innovations in asset management can go some way to helping companies resolve some of these problems.
