DUTCH company Damen Marine Components (DMC) has opened a new facility in Jiangyin, China, in a move to broaden its portfolio in China.

Located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, the 11,000 square metre facility will be double the size of the existing DMC facility in Suzhou, also in China’s Jiangsu province.

DMC Jiangyin will produce the propeller nozzles, rudders, special constructions and winches currently manufactured at Suzhou, but will allow the group to expand into products including hydraulic winches and thruster tunnels.

It is equipped with renewed production systems that include its own spinning systems for propeller nozzles and state-of-the-art grinding and sanding robots.

Employee numbers are expected to grow to 120, and the facility will service Asia, the Middle East and the US west coast.

Jiangyin was selected for its strategic position close to customers and the chance for future expansion as the group recognised a need for more production space, DMC said.
