PROGRESS has been made at the Horizon Oil operated PRL 21 licence in Papua New Guinea’s Western province after the joint venture received a key government approval.

In its second quarter announcement, Horizon said an environmental impact statement prepared for the planned Elevala development had received the formal approval of the PNG Conservation and Environment Protection Authority.

Horizon had also made progress on predevelopment planning and regulatory aspects of the project, including landowner, environmental and technical matters, it said.

Joint venture partners, which include Repsol owned Talisman Energy, Kina Petroleum, Osaka Gas and Diamond Gas, were looking to the outcome of appriasal drilling at the P’nyang project on the nearby PPL 269.

The outcome of appraisal drilling at the wellsite, due out by mid-2016, will determine how much gas would be needed from the Elevala/Tingu and Ketu fields.
