BHP BILLITON has appointed Adrian Wood to the role of head of investor relations, replacing new South32 chief financial officer Brendan Harris.

Mr Wood, who will start his new role on 18 February, joins BHP from Macquarie Securities, where he was division director with lead coverage of the mining and energy sector.

Previously he worked as a senior equity research analyst for Macquarie and held senior roles at UBS Investment Bank in London.

BHP chief financial officer Peter Beaven said Mr Wood had built a successful career in equities research worldwide and was a leader in his field.

“He brings global experience and expertise to the Investor Relations function particularly in commodities, oil and gas production and exploration and we welcome him to the BHP Billiton team.”

Mr Wood, 41, will report to Mr Beaven and relocate from Sydney to Melbourne.
