THE NORTHERN Territory’s A&B Welding has opened a new facility near Darwin’s East Arm as it continues to expand.

A spokeswoman for the company told Oil & Gas Australia that the new, custom-built facility measured 2,200 square metres workshop undercover area, with 5,747 square metres of yard space and 240 square metres of office and amenities.

As the Territory’s only fabricator with an accredited hydrostatic testing facility, a portion of the new complex is dedicated to the infrastructure necessary for that work.

The new facility boasts a 5 tonne gantry crane under an awning and a 10 tonne gantry crane in the main workshop.

It also boasts a series of new positioners, the largest of which has a capacity of up to 5 tonnes.

The company spokeswoman said that the Dawson St facility was located close to the Shell Australia Onshore Supply Base, built for the Prelude FLNG project.

It also allowed the expanding company to be close to other existing oil and gas industry clients such as ConocoPhillips, PTTEP and Eni, she said.
